A Revolutionary Transcribe-a-Thon: Bringing History to Life

November 8, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

A Revolutionary Transcribe-a-Thon: Bringing History to Life Saturday, November 8 | 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Light lunch provided The Baxter County Library, in partnership with Arkansas PBS, the Arkansas State Library, and the Library of Congress, invites the public to celebrate history through a hands-on Transcribe-a-Thon experience. The event will begin with a sneak peek of the upcoming documentary The American Revolution, directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt. Following the preview, participants will dive into transcribing Revolutionary-era documents as part of the Library of Congress’s By the People program — helping safeguard stories of the past for future generations. Karen O’Connell with the Arkansas State Library will lead the workshop, guiding participants through the citizen transcription process and showing how anyone can help make history more accessible, one document at a time. No experience is needed! Volunteers will learn how to create and review transcriptions that make historical records more searchable and available to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet if they have one; library computers will also be available. Come for the history, stay for the handwriting — plus free lunch, fun giveaways, and great company! One lucky transcriber will win The American Revolution book and DVD set. This is a unique opportunity to explore America’s founding era, deepen civic awareness, and contribute to a national project.
