Remember the Ladies
In partnership with the McNeil Center for Early American Studies, WHYY invites you to explore the often-overlooked voices of women during America’s founding era. The evening will feature a screening of the PBS documentary The American Revolution, offering a compelling look at the struggle for independence and the people who shaped it. Following the film, a panel of local historical experts will examine how women influenced — and were affected by — the fight for liberty, power, and equality. The program will also include a special poetry reading by Regional Youth Poet Laureate Malaya Ulan, appearances by period historical actors bringing Revolutionary-era figures to life and audience Q&A and community conversations. From Abigail Adams’ famous call to “remember the ladies” to the untold stories of women who organized, wrote, resisted, and led, this event invites us to reconsider who shaped the American Revolution — and how their legacy continues to resonate today. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, educator, student, or civic-minded community member, this dynamic evening will illuminate the enduring struggle for equality and the power of women’s voices, past and present. We look forward to welcoming you for this inspiring community gathering. This event is made possible in part by generous grants from The Philadelphia Funder Collaborative.
